Editorial Policy
Last updated: January 2026
Fieldnote exists to help readers learn, research, and make informed decisions, not to move product. This policy explains how we keep it that way.
Editorial independence
Writers and editors decide what to cover, what to recommend, and how to rate something based on research and hands-on use. Advertising, sponsorships, and affiliate partnerships never determine editorial decisions, and no advertiser or partner previews an article or rating before it publishes.
How we choose what to cover
We prioritize topics readers are actively trying to understand or decide on: how something works, which option to choose, or what's changed recently. We deliberately balance our coverage across tutorials, guides, news, reviews, and comparisons rather than concentrating on any single format.
Sourcing and accuracy
Factual claims are sourced from primary documentation, official statements, or direct testing wherever possible. We link to sources so you can verify claims yourself, and we update articles when facts change materially. See our corrections policy for how we handle mistakes.
Author attribution
Every article is attributed to the person who wrote it, with a byline linking to their author page. We don't publish unattributed or ghostwritten editorial content.
Relationship to advertising and affiliates
We disclose affiliate relationships clearly on every article where they apply. See our affiliate disclosure, and hold reviews to the standard described in our review methodology regardless of any commercial relationship with a brand.
